Hello Everyone!
Tomorrow is the day! I am re-sharing some information while also adding some highlighted updates!
The first day of practice is 2/24/25 and will take place at Gig Harbor HS on Turf Field #1 from 2:45 – 4:30 PM. Players should arrive with mouthguards, lacrosse sticks, goggles, clothes appropriate for activity and the weather, cleats, and a water bottle. There will also be some running as well on TUESDAY so if players would prefer to bring running shoes for that, they are more than welcome to. If players have pinnies, please have them bring them – we are currently in the process of ordering some for the team!
If you would like to see the schedule, please remember that there is a link where you can access a working schedule. I will try to send emails out with updates as well as they come in.
The most official place to locate game information would be going to the WSLA website (WSLA Website). To locate our schedules you will want to do the following:
Go to WSLA → Divisions → JV Peninsula/ Varsity Peninsula → PSD Riptides → Games
Ross, Angie and I are currently working on trying to get buses from PHS to GHHS – I got some emails about this and we are doing the best we can to help accommodate.
At this point we are registered for a varsity and provisional JV team (reduced season with five games) but will have a clear idea based on participation once the season starts on how many teams there will be so, with that being said, players should be prepared to treat the first couple of practices like a tryout. As I have done in the past years- I already sent an outline of what those first couple of tryout days will look like in advance to the player group message on google chat using their school emails but will attach a copy here as well.
Just a reiteration of a couple housekeeping things I shared earlier:
- Please make sure that your player, although they are registered, are officially cleared with their school. If you have questions, you may check in with the athletic secretaries at each school (PHS – Angie, GHHS – Carly)
- There have been some emails sent to the wrong Angie – Angie at PHS’s email is: wehmeiere@psd401.net
- Right now, we have some students who are registered but not cleared yet – please make sure your player is registered AND cleared. If they are not cleared before 2:45 PM tomorrow, they are allowed to be at practice but I cannot let them participate.
- Please make sure your player’s US lacrosse number is up to date. They need to have a current registration with US lacrosse in order to play. I will need their account numbers before the first game of the season. You check by going to the US lacrosse website: US LAX
- We are planning on doing a season player and parent meeting the first couple of weeks of the season – after finalizing schedules with ADS, we will get that time out ASAP
- A couple of our wonderful returning parents (Trulie Helgerson & Chad Scialabba) are taking the lead with creating a VPO and have also created a parent message too and I am sharing those links as well!
Finally FOR PARENTS:
- WSLA is hosting a scorekeeping clinic for those interested in keeping score this year. The scorer/timer clinic will be virtual on Wednesday, February 26th at 7pm. Please let me know if you are attending! We need at least one person to attend if possible. Here is the link to the meeting: Score Keeping Clinic Link. High school lacrosse is unique as we rely on parent support for scorekeeping at our games. Even if you have done it before, it is a good refresher course.
Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
